Sandy K. Hora, age 79, longtime resident of Oxford died Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11am Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the Oxford United Methodist Church with burial to follow at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established to support Sandy’s interest. Sandra Kay Madden was born September 26, 1942, in Iowa City the daughter of Lyle and Velma (Hora) Madden. Growing up in Iowa City Sandy attended schools in Iowa City receiving her high school diploma from City High School.

She married George D. Hora on June 13, 1959, in Rock Island, IL. The couple made their home to Oxford in 1961 and never left. For many years Sandy worked for Johnson County Social Services and later for Mercy Hospital. Sandy and George enjoyed much together, ballroom dancing, rollerskating, their membership to the Eagles Club, with their children they enjoyed camping, fishing and the annual State Fair. Sandy respected and cherished her membership to the Oxford American Legion Auxiliary, not only the friendships that were made, but also to support our Veterans!

Her family includes her three children. Becci Potter (Gary), George Hora Jr. (Edith) and Mark Hora (Kimberly Ann), 13 grandchildren, Breanne Potter, Maddi Potter, Amber Garcia, Jessica Hubler, Jessey Murillo, Christina Hora, Beth Hora, Mark Hora Jr., Tim Hora, Bob Hora, Jessica Batcheller, Tyler Carroll and Jazmine Hora; 20 great-grandchildren, and Sandy’s brother, Richard Madden.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George; daughter, Cindy Hora; grandson, Matt; great-grandson, Tyler; brother, Edward Madden; sisters, Patricia McLaughlin, Shirley Smith and Cathy Fisher; and her faithful companion, Precious.
