Jonathan Michael McElroy, 37, of Marengo, IA passed away October 2, 2021 from a motor vehicle accident.

Jonathan was born April 5, 1984 in Fort Dodge, IA. He was brought home to his parents Glen and Linda (Johnson) McElroy to their farm in rural Marengo. He graduated in 2002 from Belle Plaine High school, where he was active in athletics and 4-H, attending the 4-H state conference for two years. He helped his family on their dairy farm, before following his passion for cars by studying mechanics at Scott Community College.

Jonathan held many different jobs before most recently working at Sleepy Hollow Camp Ground in Oxford, IA. With Jonathan’s desire to help people, he truly enjoyed his time at Sleepy Hollow, working as the sole maintenance man. He was good with his hands, building seats around the campfire from logs.

Using his talent as a mechanic and ability fixing things, he assisted numerous people and friends. Jonathan participated in MMA fighting, but his forever love was cars, big tires, pick-ups and his dog Talley.

He is survived by his parents, Glen and Linda; brothers, Joel McElroy of rural Belle Plaine, Jeff McElroy of Los Angeles, CA; and grandmother, Arlo McElroy of Belle Plaine, along with many friends and extended family who cared for him dearly.

Jonathan is preceded in death by his grandfather, Arthur McElroy, grandparents, Ralph Johnson and Verna Kramer; step-grandfather, Ken Kramer; uncle, Kenny Johnson; aunt, Vicky McElroy; step-uncle Donn Kramer, step-aunt, Pat Kramer Mensing.

Service is 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown, IA with Pastor Jeff Schanbacher officiating. Service will also be livestreamed through the funeral service Facebook Page. Burial will be at Koszta Cemetery, Koszta, IA.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Friday, October 8th at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine, IA. Memorials may be made to the family. Online condolences can be sent to the family at www.neuhausfuneralservice.com
