Ralph E. "Fritz" Huedepohl was born January 22, 1930, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Ernest D. and Kalma (Hole) Huedepohl. He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1947, attended Valparaiso University for a year and then graduated from Iowa State University in Ames. Fritz served in the United States Army from 1953-55. He was a lifelong farmer.

Fritz was united in marriage to Floy Hewitt on November 15, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. To this union they were blessed with three children. Floy passed away on September 20, 1997. He later was united in marriage to Bonnie Jones on January 2, 1999.

Fritz enjoyed golfing, playing cards, watching football, mowing lawn, and traveling. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg Kiwanis Club, and the Iburg-Poulson VFW Post #8797 in Williamsburg. Fritz passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, at the Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 91 from complications of diabetes and old age.

Ornery, crass, and unfiltered are some adjectives that would describe Fritz, but if he was your friend, he was a true friend to the end. He didn't mince words and if you saw that smirk on his face, you knew what was coming. Even though age slowed his golf game, if his shot was good, he'd let you know "That's how it's done!"

He is survived by his three children, Brenda (Steve) Litwiller of Parnell, Brent (Cindy) Huedepohl of South Amana, and Barry (JoAnn) Huedepohl of Belmond; 8 grandchildren: Jason (Sara) Hocker, Adam (Olivia) Hocker, Olivia (Brad) Curtin, Sara (Cole #1) Easton, Allison (Cole #2) Poffenberger, Haylee (Kacy Snyder) Huedepohl, Kendra Huedepohl and Derek Huedepohl; 9 great-grandchildren: Addesyn, Hudson and Charlie Hocker; Grant, Ava and Ian Hocker; Payton and Dawson Curtin; and Baby Poffenberger due in October; sister-in-law, Lynne Huedepohl of Arlington Heights, IL; and a brother-in-law, Charles Denniston of Williamsburg, his friend and former wife, Bonnie Huedepohl as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Floy; brother Bradley Huedepohl and a sister Marilyn Denniston; sister-in-law Shirley Hewitt Hall; brother-in-law Virgil Hall; brother-in-law Loyal Hewitt, and sister-in-law Barbara Hewitt.

Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 10:30 am on Monday, September 13, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. There will be a VFW Service at 6:00 pm on Sunday.
