Jean Edna Doty, age 78, of Brooklyn, passed away Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 20, 2021 at the Community Hope Church, in Montezuma. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.

Jeannie is survived by her husband of 60 years, Floyd; three sons, Daniel (Shawn), of Montezuma, Doug (Wendy), of Parnell, and Daryl (Melissa), of Malcom; nine grandchildren, Kenton (Allison) Doty, Kendra (David) Daly, Kurtis (Megan) Doty, Harley, Raema, and Jaci Doty and Madelynn, Jack and Molly Doty; two great-grandchildren, Laura Jean and Grant Arthur; a sister Jerilyn (Clark) Carlson, of Minnesota; two brothers-in-law, Richard Deemy, of California, and Verne Stark, of Kansas and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oral and Edna Powers and Floyd’s parents Forrest and Frances Doty; and two sisters, JoAnn Deemy and Joyce Stark.

Jean Edna Powers was born September 26, 1942 in Boxholm, the daughter of Oral and Edna (Shafer) Powers. She graduated from Grand Community High School in 1960. Jeannie met the love of her life Floyd on a blind date. They were united in marriage in Boxholm, on December 17, 1960. Following a honeymoon to Disneyland, the two made their home south of Brooklyn. Jeannie was very hands on with the farming operation and worked side by side with Floyd day in and day out. They had many adventures in farming by raising cattle, hogs, corn and soybeans, and owned a seed business.

Jeannie loved to help at harvest time and the combine was her office. If you ever stopped in to see her while she was working she was always dressed to the nines no matter if she was working cattle or driving the combine. Jeannie welcomed three sons and was so proud to be their mother. She cared for the family by gardening, canning, sewing, cooking and baking.

Jeannie always had a passion to learn new things and in the early 70’s she and Floyd got their pilots license together. Jeannie graciously welcomed family and friends into her home and would often provide a good meal or a baked treat. After raising their children, she was employed at Grinnell Family Care and Maytag. Jeannie’s faith in Jesus Christ as her Savior was important to her and she was active in church fellowship throughout her life.

Floyd and Jeannie enjoyed traveling together and often went to see her sisters and their families. She loved shopping, bird watching, and taking care of her flower beds, especially her roses. Above all else, Jeannie loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her favorite thing to do at any family function was to hold and love on any baby. Jeannie will be missed by all who knew her, but we know she is in the hands of the Lord.
