Marvin L. Carney, age 84, of Marengo, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2021, at Compass Memorial Hospital. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Father David Wilkening officiating. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery, Marengo with Military Honors conducted by the Marengo American Legion Post #76 and the Army Honor Guard. Visitation: 4-7 P.M., Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers or “cement” a memorial fund has been established.

Marv is survived by his three sons Randy (Angie) of Marengo, Jim (Cheryl) of Walford, and Mike (Sharon) of Marengo; six grandchildren Lyndsey Carney of Marengo, Holly (John) Hinshaw of Marengo, Lucas (Holly) Carney of Minnetonka, MN., Rachel Carney of Coralville, Makayla Carney of Luzerne, and Austin Carney of Keystone; one great grandson Egen Hinshaw; two sisters Donna Grimm of Cedar Rapids and Shirley (Dean) Stoddard of Williamsburg; and a sister-in-law Judy Carney of Williamsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia in 2014, a son Daniel in infancy, two twin grandchildren Patrick and Ashlyn in infancy; his brother Leonard, and a brother-in-law Bennie Grimm.

Marvin Louis Carney was born September 22, 1936, in Brooklyn, Iowa the son of Louis and Jennie Dhondt Carney. He graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in Victor with the class of 1954. Marv went to straight to work at Amana Refrigeration as an assembler before enlisting in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956.

Marv was united in marriage to Patricia Wilson on November 30, 1957, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Marengo. He returned to Amana Refrigeration, working his way up to Vice President of Purchasing and President of Caloric Corporation. This allowed him to travel overseas as part of his job duties. Marv was able to retire from Amana Refrigeration in 1992.

Upon his retirement, he and Pat spent their winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona, and frequently traveled to Colorado, which was his favorite place on earth. He drove vehicles for Capper Auto, and also drove for Iowa County Transportation for several years. Marv also worked for Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, where he made many lifelong friends. Marv served as a member of the Compass Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, from 1997 to 2012 including finance committee chair member. He also served on St. Patrick’s Parish Council for many years.

He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids, happy hour with the neighbors, taking care of his lawn and reading his western books. Marv will be greatly missed by many.
