DAVIES, Esther M. 90, of St. Petersburg, passed away March 1, 2016. The Tampa Bay Rays lost an avid fan. Esther lived a full and rewarding Christian life during her 90 years.

She was born in Williamsburg, IA in 1925 to Henry and Martha (Huedepohl) Madoerin. Her first husband, Alfred H. Martinson, was killed during WWII in Italy. In 1953, she married the second love of her life, Idris (Ed) Davies; they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before his death in 2014.

Over the years she held many jobs, but her real joy was selling. Early in her career, she managed the men and boys department for JC Penney in Creston, IA. In 1969 the family moved to St. Petersburg and she transferred to Penney's there, eventually moving into the furniture department. She retired from Penney's after 35 years of service and was extremely proud of her Gold Card status.

Esther and Ed were active members of the Northeast Presbyterian Church in St. Petersburg.

Esther is survived by her children, Dennis (Connie) Martinson, Sue Yagmin, and Tom (Margarete) Davies; a sister, Anita Dubisher. She is further survived by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held at Northeast Presbyterian Church, St. Petersburg at 1 pm March 10. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to your favorite charity . Anderson-McQueen Funeral Home.
