Karen Joanne Bartachek, 84, of Maquoketa, IA passed away June 13, 2021 at Crestridge Care Center in Maquoketa.

Service was 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service, Belle Plaine with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Annabell Williams-Blegen will be officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Belle Plaine.

Karen was the daughter of Louis and Helen (Formanek) Bartachek born on April 2, 1937 in Belle Plaine. IA. Karen graduated from Belle Plaine High School and Iowa State Teachers College with a BA in Instrumental Music. She was director of bands at West Central of Maynard, Deep River-Millersburg, Del Wood and Wyoming.

After retirement she was a hospice volunteer, entertained at local nursing homes and hospice gatherings and played saxophone in the River City (Clinton) Municipal Band.

Karen is survived by her sister, Judy Bartachek of Denmark, IA; brother, Jerry Bartachek of Washington, IA; nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters-in-law; and several cousins.
