David Arnold Bastian, 82, of Victor, died unexpectedly on June 12, 2021, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life service has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor. Burial will be held at the Victor Memorial Cemetery. The Bastian family will greet friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Dave Bastian Memorial Fund.

The son of Arnold and Gertrude Ball Bastian, Dave was born on Feb. 19, 1939, in Grinnell. He lived near Newburg where he attended school. In 1950, he moved to Victor and graduated from Victor Public High School in 1957. After graduation, he was a school bus driver until 1961.

He was married to Louise McClenathan, in the Immanuel Methodist Church, rural Victor, on Aug. 16, 1958. They moved to their present home near Victor in 1960 and started farming. Dave was a member of the Victor United Methodist Church. He was active in 4H and later was recognized for both regional and district conservation practices on his land. He loved Iowa and farming, and was always trying to leave things better than he found them.

Survivors include his wife, Louise of Victor; two daughters, Denise (Richard) Creps of Grinnell and Julie (Scott) Christensen of Colona, Ill.; five grandchildren, Katie, Alex and Mickey Christensen, and Ryan Creps (Julie Mesner) and Toshia Creps (Travis) Sharp; two great-grandchildren, Maverick and Beau Sharp; and a sister, Bernice Woodward.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Kevin, in 1961; and his parents.
