Gladys Jean (Evans) Beasley, age 77, of Marengo, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2021. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, June 4, 2021 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with visitation from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the family, Safe Haven of Iowa County Animal Shelter or Essence of Life Hospice.

Gladys was born August 21, 1943 in Iowa City, the daughter of Howard and Clara (Goss) Evans. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1961 and continued her education at the University College of Cosmetology in Iowa City. She married Michael Beasley on March 4, 1962 and they resided in Iowa City for a number of years before the family moved to Williamsburg where Gladys established a beauty salon in her home.

In 1975, they moved to Millersburg where they owned and operated the Hometown Cafe until 1991, at which time they moved to Marengo where they owned and operated Michael’s Chuckwagon.

Gladys enjoyed adventurous RV trips with her husband and young grandchildren, as well as spending fun times with family and friends. With her friendly and welcoming attitude, she was loved by all who knew her; this is why every business she was involved in was such a success.

Survivors include her son Jeff (Vicky) Beasley, of North English; three grandchildren Mariah (Quentin) Stockton, of Holbrook, Austin Beasley, of Marengo and Brooke Beasley, of Iowa City; three step-grandchildren, Jacqueline Stafford, of North English, Samantha Stewart, of Iowa City and Zane Stewart, of North English; three great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother Murray (Lynn) Evans, of Williamsburg; and a sister Ruth Baker, of Mesa, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a great grandson Kyler Stockton and four siblings, Evelyn Griffen, Edward Evans, Carl Evans and Lucille Raasch.

There are two unrelated survivors Gladys was especially thankful to have in her life as she struggled with ongoing health issues during her final years. One was Ardath Davis who was not just her closest friend, but more like a caring sister. And of course, Frankie, her beloved, faithful dog who was so comforting to her.

Gladys was such a loving, sweet woman; we will miss her. But we know there is a special place for her in heaven as she reunites with departed family and all the pets she rescued and loved.
