Doris J. Cook, 91, of Winthrop, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at ABCM East Campus in Independence.

Memorial Service was 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 20, 2021 at the Hoover Wesleyan Church, rural Walker, Iowa with Rev. Charles Clark officiating. Visitation was 9:30 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at the church.

Fawcett-Schmitz Funeral Home in Winthrop is assisting the family. Final Resting Place is Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills, Iowa.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, social distancing and masks were suggested at the visitation and service.

Doris Jean Tudor was born on March 5, 1930 in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of Jared & Cleo (Quinn) Tudor. In her younger years, her siblings called her “Bitsy.” Doris graduated from North English High School as the valedictorian of the class of 1947. She married Wallace Carter, Jr. on October 24, 1947. To this union were born three children, Thomas Lynn, Linda Jean and Nancy Sharon. They were later divorced.

Doris taught kindergarten in Winthrop for many years. She was later introduced to Ray Cook by his wife, Lorraine. After Lorraine’s passing, Doris was united in marriage to Ray Kenneth Cook in 1978 at the Church of Christ United in Winthrop. They lived and worked with the Cook Brothers.

Doris loved her Lord and Savior and served faithfully as a member of the Hoover Church and the area women’s bible study. She loved to flower garden. Doris was an avid photographer and was involved with the Photo Friends Club. She was well taken care of by Ray, until his passing on August 20, 2020, and later Kenny, Alan and the whole Cook family. The last several years were spent in ABCM East Campus in Independence, a great care facility. She had suffered from Alzheimer’s and died of complications of Covid-19.

Doris is survived by her Son: Tom (Nicole) Carter of Newton; Daughter: Nancy Davis of Lexington, Kentucky  7 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; 4 Step-Sons: Kenneth (Linda) Cook of Winthrop, Donald (Karen) Cook of Ryan, Harold Cook of Independence & Alan (Janet) Cook of Winthrop; 10 Step Grandchildren; 24 Step Great Grandchildren; 2 Sisters-In-Law: Bernice Dusil of Troy Mills and Leah Cook of Independence.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; daughter: Linda Carter; step grandson: Stephen Cook; nephew: Jim Dusil; niece: Joyce McAtee; and 2 brothers-in-law: Joe Dusil & Edmund Cook.
