Lawrence "Larry" McDonald was born November 13, 1933 in Parnell, Iowa. The son of Martin and Helen (Andes) McDonald. He graduated from Parnell High School.

Larry served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1958. He was a Quartermaster Supply Specialist and was awarded the Sharpshooter Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

Larry was united in marriage to Jennie Rohrbacher of Amana, in January of 1970. Together the owned and operated Oak Park in Marengo for a number of years. Then later moved to Fairfax, to Branson, Missouri and upon returning to Iowa they lived in Independence.

He had worked throughout his life as security guard for the University of Iowa, the Duane Arnold Energy Center, Amana Refrigeration as well as a reserve for the Marengo Police. He also owned the Country Peddler traveling abroad selling novelty gifts and snack items.

Larry became a resident at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown a number of years ago. He passed away on Sunday, April 25 2021 at the Iowa Veterans Home at the age of 87.

He is survived by three children, Kevin of Burns, Wyoming, Shawn of Cedar Rapids and Michelle (Shelly) and husband Donald Tuttle of Urbana/Center Point; 5 grandchildren, Beth, Joshua, Dustin, Nicole and Daren; 5 great grandchildren; two sisters, Rita (Elliott) Driscoll of Williamsburg and Margaret Yates of Sigourney and a sister-in-law, Pauline McDonald of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother Francis McDonald and a brother-in-law Donald Yates.

Graveside services will be held 10:30 am on Saturday, May 1, 2021, at St. Joseph Cemetery in Parnell, with military rites by the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797 of Williamsburg. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
