Douglas "Whitey" Metz, 60, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, April 23, 2021, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.

Visitation: 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, May 3, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with the funeral service to immediately follow at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Whitey, under "photos and videos or media," starting at 11 a.m. Monday, May 3.

Whitey was born Dec. 5, 1960, in Vinton, Iowa, the son of William and Shirley (Schoettmer) Metz. He graduated from Benton Community High School and worked for the Ox Yoke Inn, Amana, Iowa, until he suffered a stroke in 2016.

Survivors include his sister, Bonnie (Dan) Wagaman of Dysart, Iowa, Scott Metz and Steve (Jodi) Metz, all of Blairstown, Iowa, and Ron (Shelly Konicek) Metz of Belle Plaine; nieces and nephews, Curt (Julie Kaneyuki) Wagaman, Jill (Mitch) Allen, Jory (Megan) Metz, Ashley (Ethan) Hodder, Tristan (Liz Jensen) Metz, Emma Metz, Kourtney (Avery) Larent; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Whitey was preceded in death by his parents and great-niece, Celia Allen. Memorials may be directed to the family.
