Judith Ann Tanner, 81, of Marengo and formerly of Ladora, went to be with the Lord on April 17, 2021, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral service for the immediate family only has been scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 20th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with Pastor Stuart Vander-Vegte, Victor United Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Jeff Weisskopf, Craig Buscher, Paul Hahn, Sion Fontinel, Sarah Verretta, Briana Kappos, Lucas Buscher, Caden Fontinel, Cole Fontinel, Hannah Johnson, Logan Johnson, and Olivia Verretta. Burial will be in the Ladora Cemetery.

The service will be live-streamed on the Smith Funeral Home Facebook page beginning 10 minutes prior to the service.

A public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening, April 19th, at the Smith Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the family of Judy Tanner.

Judy was born February 8, 1940, at her family home, rural Iowa County, the daughter of Leon and Emily Stoner Hawkins. She was raised near Ladora and attended school there.

On October 19, 1957, she was united in marriage to Jerry L. Tanner, the love of her life, in Preston, Minnesota. The couple lived on their family farm in Iowa County where she worked and dedicated many years. She was also employed for many years at Shaull’s Grocery Store in Ladora.

Judy was a lifetime member of the Ladora United Methodist Church where she served in the Women’s Group (WSCS), played the organ and helped with other church ministries. She enjoyed spending time with her family, including interesting adventures with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling to the Colorado Rocky Mountains, Branson, and to the Amish country in Pennsylvania. She liked singing, gardening, sewing, and playing the organ at home.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry of Marengo; three children, Justine (Jeff) Weisskopf of Victor, Pam (Paul) Hahn of Tualatin, Oregon, and Peg (Craig) Buscher of Bondurant; four grandchildren and their respective spouses, Sion Fontinel, Sarah Verretta, Brianna Kappos, and Lucas Buscher; five great-grandchildren, Caden and Cole Fontinel, Hannah and Logan Johnson, and Olivia Verretta; two sisters-in-law, Bernna Deane Hawkins and Betty (Arthur) Fudge; one brother-in-law, Gary (Marilyn) Tanner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard Hawkins.
