Renee Michelle Heitman, age 61 died on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital. Memorial services were held on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sioux Falls Lutheran School, the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation or your local arts or arts education council. Renee Michelle Heitman was born and baptized in Landstuhl, Germany on October 16, 1959 to Harlan and Joan Heitman (nee Sandersfeld.) She grew up on a farm outside of Williamsburg, Iowa, and graduated from Lutheran Interparish School in 1974 and Williamsburg High School in 1978. She graduated from Hair by Stewarts in Davenport, Iowa in 1979 and was a stylist at various salons until the mid 1990’s.

She went back to school and worked full time while getting her Associate’s degree from Scott Community College and pursuing her Bachelor’s in Graphic Design from Teikyo Marycrest University in Davenport, Iowa. She worked as a marketing coordinator and designer at various companies in the Chicago suburban area from the mid 1990’s until 2019. In 2019, she moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to be closer to her parents and sister and brother-in-law. She worked as a designer at Montgomery’s Furniture Store.

Renee was a gentle yet vibrant soul with a passion for art and animals, especially cats. In her free time, she enjoyed taking art classes and working on art and other creative projects. She had an eye for design and was talented at drawing, painting, print making, collage, jewelry, fabric arts, and other artistic endeavors. She also enjoyed cooking and raising flowers and herbs. She was generous and hardworking, and was a devoted daughter, wonderful sister and aunt, and loyal friend. She attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls.

She is survived by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Melanie and Jeff Nelson of Sioux Falls, SD, a sister and brother-in-law, Char Les and Phil Moore of Eugene, Oregon, a brother and sister-in-law, Ryan and Renee Heitman of Roselle, Illinois, nephew, Blake Heitman of Indianapolis, Indiana, niece, Brooke Heitman of Roselle, Illinois, and nephew, Rio Heitman Moore of Eugene, Oregon and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.
