Robert C. Hergert, age 86 of East Amana, died Friday, February 5, 2021 at his home after a brief illness. A private family service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Homestead with Rev. Zachary Voss officiating. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Robert is survived by his wife Vivian of 62 years; two sons, Gregory (Ellen) Hergert, Rick (Victoria) Hergert, and a daughter Susan (Michael) Spellerberg. Eight grandchildren, Theodore, Kathryn, and Elizabeth Hergert, Hannah (Tim) McCool, Haley (Cameron) Kacena, Evan Hergert, Rachel Spellerberg and Ryan (Kaitlyn) Spellerberg, four great grandchildren, Timothy and Julian McCool, Frank Kacena, and Nolan Spellerberg.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Henry Hergert and Elmer Hergert of Tennessee, who followed Robert to Heaven just 12 hours later; sisters in law Magelana and Mary Lou; and a nephew Paul Hergert.

Robert Carl Hergert was born September 18, 1934 at his home in East Amana, the son of Christian and Bertha (Geiger) Hergert. He graduated from Amana High School in 1952, in his junior and senior year he drove the Amana School Bus. Robert married Vivian Heitshusen on August 9, 1958 at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. Robert was a translator and worked in the medical field. He also worked for the Amana Meat Shop for many years. He enjoyed golfing, trips with his friends and playing cards. Most of all, Bob loved his family and was very proud of them.
