H.L. Shearer, 88, Taken By Death At Home In Letts
Letts -
Howard L. Shearer, 88, a building and decorating contractor, died at his home here Thursday night after an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 21, 1860 at Columbus City, being a son of Martin H. and Mary Ann Gipe Shearer. He grew to manhood in that community. He married Clara Bell Idle Oct. 30, 1885. Their home was made at Columbus City for a time. They moved to Letts, went later to Cedar Falls, where their home was made until 10 years ago, when they returned to Letts. Mr. Shearer was a member of the Presbyterian church at Cedar Heights.
He is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Darlene Short of Brinkley, Ark., and Mrs. Beatrice Cox, Watsonville, Ark., and five sons, Carl Shearer, San Francisco, Frank Shearer, Menlo, Calif., Allen Shearer, Carmel, Calif., Austin Shearer, Spencer, Ia., and Harry M. Shearer, Letts. Fourteen grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren also survive. One daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services have been set tentatively for 2 p.m. Saturday at his home and are to be conducted by the Rec. Paul Textor of the Letts Methodist church. Burial will be at Letts.
The Fairbanks Home for Funerals is in charge of arrangements.
