Beverly Joyce Van Horn, 89, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2021, at The Views in Marion, Iowa. In agreement with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of Beverly's life is being planned for a later date in the spring of 2021. An announcement will follow in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, closer to the date of the celebration. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Beverly was born Feb. 23, 1931, in rural Iowa County, Iowa, the daughter of Alven and Edith (Krohl) Albert. She was a 1949 graduate of Marengo High School, and went on to Bookkeeping College in Des Moines, Iowa. On Dec. 6, 1953, Beverly was united in marriage to Duane L. Van Horn.

In her earlier years, after moving to Cedar Rapids, Beverly was employed with Happel & Sons Implement Co. as a secretary for nearly eight years. She went on to work as Deputy Auditor for the City of Cedar Rapids, retiring after 32 years. Beverly was a charter member of St. Mark's Methodist Church from 1961. She was an avid bridge player. Beverly enjoyed attending the Iowa State Fair, going for car rides and baking, her sugar cookies were her signature trademark. She was always supportive of her sons and grandsons, they were the biggest part of her life. Beverly will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Beverly is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 67 years, Duane Van Horn of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Randy (Denise) Van Horn of Marion and Dan Van Horn of Cedar Rapids; two grandsons, Ryne Van Horn of Boston, Mass., and C.J. (Sarah) Van Horn of Norway, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Jayln, Jayce and Jaxon; one sister, Darla (John ) Doud of Victor, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Albert; and one sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Joe Kolash. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Beverly's memory may be made to either Dogs Forever, 809 Rockford Rd. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404, or to a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
