Jeanette Elgin, 87, of Center Point, Iowa, died Thursday, December 24, 2020. A visitation will be held from 10 – 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 520 Wilson Avenue SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Center Point Cemetery.

All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. A livestream of the funeral service may be accessed on the funeral home website tribute page for Jeanette, under “photos and videos or media,” starting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 31st.

Jeanette was born on May 31, 1933, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Dora (Furman) and Robert Bowler, Sr. In 1951, she graduated from Center Point Consolidated High School. Jeanette was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Elgin on August 3, 1951, at Center Point EUB Church.

She dedicated her life to raising her children. Jeanette was a member of the Center Point Historical Society, and Alice United Methodist Church where she sang and played the piano. She was an accompanist and lunch lady for the Center Point Schools. Jeanette enjoyed singing at nursing homes with the Community Singers. She loved playing cards, tending to her flower garden and her many dachshunds.

Survivors include her children, Donald (Nancy) Elgin of Center Point, and Kim (Lisa) Schipper of Troy, Missouri; grandchildren, Summer, Sam, Megan, Emily, Kelsey, Amy, James, Ashley, and Megan; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Darlene Elgin of Tipton, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob in 2011; daughter, Susan Kay Elgin; sisters, Arlene Thomas, Lela Reif, and Beatrice “Bea” Thomas; and brothers, Robert “Bob” Bowler Jr., and George Bowler.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to everyone at Avalon Hospice and Emery Place for their loving care of Jeanette.
