Ann Elizabeth Schmitt died on Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg, at the age of 90 years.

A Funeral Mass was held 2:30 pm on Friday, November 27, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. Burial was in the Wellman Cemetery. Powell Funeral Home in North English is caring for Ann and her family. In lieu of flowers, a general memorial fund has been established. Ann Elizabeth Schmitt was born October 9, 1930 in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of George H. & Helen (Schenkel) Miller. She graduated from Mid Prairie High School and took nurse's training at St. Josephs School of Nursing in Ottumwa. On June 16, 1952 Ann was united in marriage to Lester Frank Schmitt at St. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, near Harper.

She was a registered nurse and worked at University of Iowa Hospitals early in her career and later at Keokuk County Hospital in Sigourney, where she worked for many years until retirement. Ann was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English, where she was active in the Altar & Rosary Society. She enjoyed baking, walking, shopping and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children Michael (Mary Jo) Schmitt of Kinross, Terri Schmitt of West Des Moines and Sandi (Bill) Van Dee of North English; six grandchildren Sydney (Austin) Flugum, Rachel (Alex) Ralston, Lindsey (Adam) Nechanicky, Jordan (Jake) Bonner, Kelli (Joe) Osweiler and Klint Schmitt; six great grandchildren Carson, Mitchell, Bryant and Kaden Nechanicky and Audrey and Ayden Bonner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lester and a brother George Miller.
