Dorothy L. Freshour, age 99, of Marengo passed away Thursday, October 1, 2020 at Rose Haven Nursing Home, Marengo. Private Mass of Christian Burial: Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Marengo with Father David Wilkening officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Marengo.

Memorials may be contributed in Dorothy’s name in care of Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Masks and social distancing are required for all in attendance. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.klosterfuneralhome.com.

Dorothy Lucille Dohnalek was born August 1, 1921, in Belle Plaine, Iowa. She received her education graduating from Belle Plaine High School with the class of 1939. Dorothy was united in marriage to Herschel Freshour on October 4, 1944 in Belle Plaine, Iowa.

Dorothy taught elementary school in many country schools and Iowa Valley Community. Dorothy also co-owned A & B Fashions- a lady’s clothing store in Marengo. She enjoyed making homemade noodles, loved to fish and go mushroom hunting. Dorothy loved dancing and going to dances especially with her husband Herschel.

Dorothy is survived by her daughters Vicki Meyer of Indianola , Terri (Don) Schutterle of Marengo, and Shelli (Darrell) Bentley of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren Lisa (Gregg) Poots of Las Vegas, NV, Bill (Marian) Meyer of Chandler, AZ, Denise (Marc) Tucker of Ely, Erin (Kent) Ahnemann of Aurelia, Tessie (Jay) Coghlan of Marengo, Amber (John) O’Connor of Cedar Rapids, Sarah (Andy) Eicher of Robins, Kyle (Janelle) Bentley of Cedar Rapids; 18 great grandchildren Zacc (Alicia) Poots, Tysson (Raquel) Poots, Chelsi Poots, Sydni (Andrew Paonessa) Poots, Alex Nelson, Beau and Mandi Meyer, Cody Meyer, Camrin (Marissa) Meyer, Jacee (Trevor) Sangwin, Cade Ahnemann, Jacob (Jessica) Freemeyer, Kaylie Tucker, Dawson Coghlan, Sienna and Aidan O’Connor, and Tenley and Lauryn Eicher; 12 great- great grandchildren; and a sister in law Teresa Freshour of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herschel Freshour, her parents James and Agnes (Krajicek) Dohnalek, a sister Mary Ann Koss and husband Gerald, a son in law George Meyer, a granddaughter Jill Meyer, brothers and sisters in law Mathel and Ivan Schafbuch, Chester Freshour, Charles and Ann Freshour, and Thelma Wolfe.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rose Haven for all their kind, compassionate, and loving care Dorothy received during her stay with them. She considered them “family.”
