Clarence was born July 1, 1926, in Middle Amana, Iowa, the son of Adolph and Helene Geyer Reihmann.mHe graduated from Amana High School in 1944 and entered the U.S. Army, 84th Infantry Division, serving in Germany during World War II. On September 16, 1950, Clarence married the love of his life, Esther Lou Moser at the Amana Church. They enjoyed nearly 70 years together.

Clarence worked at Amana Refrigeration for 36 years as a tool engineer. He was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed his wood shop where he made furniture, picture frames, and fixed many things. He did metal work and learned to oil paint. Clarence loved his Middle Amana family home, where he could walk to work and church, and enjoyed lifelong friends and a membership in the Amana Community Church, where he was a song leader. Clarence had a wonderful tenor voice, and was known to “burst into song”, and found many willing participants and harmonizers. In his last days he was leading his daughter in singing “Amazing Grace”.

Clarence and Esther enjoyed going to his Army reunions, traveling abroad, dancing and family gatherings. The joy of his life was being “Opa” to his granddaughters and to his young great-granddaughter, Helena.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Esther; his daughter Susan Melenovsky; his granddaughters and families, Amy (Nate) Lefebvre of Bloomington, MN, and Abby Utecht of Cedar Rapids; and great granddaughter Helena Lefebvre.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law Robert Melenovsky and his beloved daughter, Julie.

The family requests no plants or flowers. Instead those wishing to honor Clarence’s memory, may make a donation to the Amana Community Church in hopes of planting new trees, to replace those destroyed by the storm. Cards and memorials may be sent to Susan Melenovsky, P.O. Box 94, Middle Amana, Iowa 52307
