Donald P. Oehl, age 86, of Amana, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Belle Plaine Specialty Care. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Homestead with Pastor Zachary Voss officiating. Visitation: 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo.

Burial will be at the Main Amana Cemetery, with military honors. Memorials may be directed to Essence of Life Hospice or a charity of the donor’s choice. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements. All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing during the visitation and funeral service.

Donald is survived by his wife Judy of 62 years, a grandson Zach Even of Coralville, two sisters Madeline Roemig Bendorf of Iowa City, and Florence Couch of Bonita Springs, FL., brothers in law Gerald Schwarting (Karen), Robert Schwarting (Kathy), and Jon Wylie, all of Amana; many nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Obie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Andrea Oehl Even; two brothers in law Bob Couch and Martin Roemig, his father and mother in law Vernon and Johanna Schwarting.

Donald Paul Oehl was born January 5, 1934 in Amana, the son of Paul and Frieda Schmieder Oehl. After attending the Amana School, he served two years in the United States Army. After returning from Korea he was united in marriage to Judith Schwarting on July 12, 1958.

The couple made their home in Amana where he was employed by Oehl Plumbing and Heating. Donald eventually owned and operated the business for 35 years. Don and Judy loved to travel in their motorhome, meeting many friends along the way. They traveled through every state, including Canada and Mexico. The last 22 years were spent wintering in Arizona and Don loved all his neighbors there.

A special thank you to Essence of Life Hospice, Amana, who took excellent care of Don this past month.
