Eugene P. Rudin, age 70, of Marengo, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at St John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo with Pastor Andrew Gray officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m., until service time at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo. Burial will be at the Marengo Cemetery, Marengo.

All guests are respectfully requested to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Memorial may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo or the Marengo Fire Department. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Gene is survived by his wife Phillis, his daughter Kelly (Joe) Smith of Marengo; two grandchildren, Ian James and Brooke Lily; a brother Steven (LaRae) Rudin of North Liberty; many relatives and special friends Terry Pope, Charlie Johnson, Lee and Linda Block and their daughters, Leanne and Lieshia.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter Cara Amber, and a brother Charles.

Eugene Paul Rudin was born May 5, 1950 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of Paul and Alice Hudepohl Rudin. He attended the Lutheran School in Conroy, graduating from Iowa Valley High School with the class of 1968. Gene received his Associates Degree in Agriculture from Kirkwood Community College.

He was united in marriage to Phillis Schoenfelder on September 26, 1970 in Van Horne, Iowa. Gene was involved in agriculture for many years raising, showing, and selling sheep. He retired from Amana Refrigeration where he was employed for 40 plus years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Marengo.

Gene and Phillis enjoyed traveling in the past several years, traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, New Zealand and various other U.S. destinations. Future trips were planned for the Smokey Mountains and Danube River Cruise. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and going to his grandchildren’s events.
