Lorraine F. “Magee” Baustian, 85, of Deep River died on December 27, 2019, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 31st, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with Pastor Doug Dauenbaugh, Guernsey United Methodist Church, officiating.
Organist will be Milly Purvis. Pallbearers will be Jeremiah and Lewis Baustian, Colton Hendricks, Tanner Showalter, Jon Murry and Jeremy Morris. Burial will follow at the Guernsey Cemetery, Guernsey, Iowa.
Visitation will be held Monday, December 30th, at the Smith Funeral, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Guernsey United Methodist Church or to the Deep River Fire Department.
Magee was born on June 4, 1934, in Deep River, the son of Carl Lewis and Edna Roland Baustian. He was raised in Deep River and attended school there prior to moving to the farm west of Guernsey at the beginning of high school. He was a 1951 graduate of Guernsey High School.
On February 6, 1955, he was united in marriage with Marilyn Jean Gwin, at the Guernsey United Methodist Church. A union of nearly 65 years! The couple farmed together near Deep River for many years while raising five children.
Magee held a love for the outdoors; including farming and raising livestock, fishing and hunting. He was considered one of the best cattleman in the area. He loved chocolate of all kinds, socializing with other people and was a friend to many. He played 3rd base with the Guernsey town softball team for many years. But, most importantly, was his love for his family.
Magee was a member and past president of the BGM School Board and had served for many terms; he was a charter member and served 40 years as a director of the Poweshiek Water Association. He was also a long-time member of the Guernsey United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn of Deep River; three sons, Bruce (Marlene) Baustian of Brooklyn, Brian (Lori) Baustian of Brooklyn, and Brent (Hillary) Baustian of Walford; four grandsons, Jeremiah, Lewis, Colton, and Tanner; nine granddaughters, Meredith, Jessica, Caitlynne, Delaney, Morgan, Madison, Zoey, Natalie and Mackenzie; three great-granddaughters, Tatum, River and Hazel; two nephews; and three nieces.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Melissa Hendricks (2007) and Melinda Showalter (2008); his parents; three brothers and their wives; and two nephews.
