Barb was born October 9, 1944 in Algona, IA to Garel and Bernice Leek. She graduated from Corwith-Wesley High School in 1962 and received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the State College of Iowa (University of Northern Iowa) in 1966.

Barb taught for thirty-three years, most of that time spent educating third graders in the Williamsburg Community School District. For twenty-five of those years you could find her in the evenings keeping score for the Raider basketball teams. She loved teaching and made a lasting impact on the hundreds of kids that resided in her classroom. Barb retired in 2010 to spend more time with her grandchildren.

Barb loved watching her children and grandchildren play sports, cheering for the Hawkeyes, and yelling at the Cubs. In retirement she turned her competitive spirit to playing bridge in Des Moines. Her grandchildren recall hours spent reading with Grammie.

She is survived by her sister Janice (Tim) Long, brother-in-law Bill Funnemark, children Rick (Heather) Maas of Grinnell, Tyler (Kim) Maas of Urbandale, and Ann (Bill) Reid of Columbus, IN. She will be lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren, Brecken, Henry, Caleb, Sailor and Kate.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Carol.
