DALE F. BAACK
Homestead

Dale F. Baack, 87, of Homestead, Iowa, is now enjoying his richest blessings in the arms of his heavenly Father after leaving this earthly life on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. A celebration of Dale's life will be held at a later date. Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Homestead.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg or to hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids. Kloster Funeral Home of Marengo is assisting the family with arrangements.

Dale Frederick Baack was born April 17, 1932, on the family farm in Iowa Township, Iowa County, to Ernest and Anna (Brockshus) Baack. He attended St. John's Lutheran School through eighth grade, and he graduated from Marengo High School in 1950. In 1953, his country asked for his assistance, so Dale served two years in the U.S. Army at Camp Hale in Colorado. Following his service, he returned to work on the family farm.

Dale loved to dance, and one evening in 1956, after chores, he attended a dance where he met Constance (Connie) Louise Robu. They were married Feb. 10, 1957, and danced their way through life together for the next 63 years, raising five children in the process.

Dale lived his life for the Lord, and he never hesitated to give God the glory for everything. Good weather or bad, high market prices or low, good health or poor, Dale never wavered in his belief that God would provide. "What A Friend We Have In Jesus" was Dale's theme song, and he was diligent in sharing his faith. He was a loyal supporter of Lutheran Interparish School in Williamsburg, serving on the school board, and proudly providing each of his children an education there.

Dale was delighted to be able to develop his birthplace into a Century Farm, and he truly enjoyed having his family celebrate that accomplishment during his annual Farm Fest gatherings. Dale loved sitting with Connie in the evenings, looking out over the east fence to watch the corn grow. He also enjoyed singing around the piano, cheering on the Hawkeyes, playing golf, bowling, and eating his favorite saltine crackers in milk.

Dale taught his children to work hard until the job was finished, to value a dollar, to save things "because you might just need that someday," to approach situations with common sense sprinkled with humor and, most importantly, to love the Lord above all else.

He is survived by his wife, Connie of Homestead; his five children, Karla (Kevin) Cornish of Grinnell, Melinda (David) Canott of Williamsburg, Roger (Belinda) Baack of South Amana, Darin (Nancy) Baack of Carroll and Beth (Paul) Lortz of Garner; his 12 grandchildren; his nine great-grandchildren; his sister, Alice (Heinz) Hoenecke of Carlsbad, Calif.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Rolyn Baack; and his sister, Florine Rathmann.
