Mary Arnold, age 99, passed away Friday morning in Williamsburg, Iowa. She and her husband, Frank Arnold, were former residents of the Ledford community. “Private services will be held with burial in the Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg.
Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is serving the family.

Mary E. Arnold died on Friday, March 20, 2020, at Highland Ridge Care Center. She was just a few weeks short of celebrating her 100th birthday.

Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg, Illinois. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Mary E. Arnold was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and devoted wife to Frank J. Arnold.

She was born two years after the last pandemic that swept the world, spent her childhood growing up during the Great Depression, and married on the very eve of World War II. During the war she worked at General Motors inspecting tank carburetors before shipment overseas. Her fellow workers had a saying, “if it ain’t good enough for Mary Arnold, it’s not leaving the plant!” Mary lived her life with the same integrity.

Mary was a gifted homemaker. She sewed, gardened, canned, and baked.

She and her husband, Frank, traveled the United States. Later in life, she joined her friends known as “the Golden Girls,” in visiting many European countries.

Mary was known for her independence, kindness, sense of humor, and fashion. She was greatly loved by her family and friends and will be dearly missed.

She is survived by three children, Barbara (Wes) Heitzman of Dubuque, Donna (Steve) Tolman of Prescott, Arizona, and Ed (Andrea) Arnold of Kent, Michigan; grandchildren, Megan Heitzman of Williamsburg, Emily (Jonathan Dodrill) Heitzman of Chicago, Joe Arnold of Michigan, Christian Kolough of Texas, Natalie (Adam Julien) Arnold of Michigan, Alex Arnold of Michigan; great grandchildren, Wesley McGovern and Emily Elizabeth McGovern of Williamsburg, and Nora Arnold-Julien of Michigan.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond J. and Flo E. (Hise) Lindsey of Harrisburg, Illinois; husband Frank J Arnold of Carrier Mills; sister, Sylvia Lindsey; brothers, Jim (Lindy) Lindsey, Leroy Lindsey, Wayne (Bobbie) Lindsey, and Barney (Louise) Lindsey.

Mary’s family would like to especially thank the nurses and staff at Highland Ridge and at the Highland Ridge Care Center for all the kindness and devoted care they gave to our mother.
