Marsha D. Koughn, 72, of Lincoln, NE, passed away on Thursday, February 20th, 2020 at Bryan East Medical Center in Lincoln.

Honoring Marsha’s wishes, her body will be cremated. The family will have a private memorial gathering later in the spring.

Marsha was born June 28, 1947, in Council Bluffs, IA to Raymond W. & Jean F. Pacholke. The family moved to North English, IA, in October 1962. Marsha graduated in 1965 from English Valleys Community School District. After graduating, she worked briefly at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, IA.

In March 1966, she married Loren L. Turnipseed. To this union was born their son John. They later divorced. Marsha then attended Northeast Iowa Community College in Calmar, IA, first earning her LPN degree and then her RN degree. During this time, she & John lived with her parents in Monona, IA. Whenever her father (a United Methodist minister) was assigned to another church, she and John moved with them. From Monona, they moved to Milo, IA, and later to Sioux Rapids, IA. When her father retired, Marsha bought a house in Sioux Rapids, and her parents moved in with her.

In 2001, she and Harold Koughn were united in marriage, and lived in Monroe, IA. After Harold retired they moved to Gresham, NE, to be closer to John and his family. Marsha & Harold loved the many Pomeranians that shared their lives over the years of their marriage. After Harold passed away in 2016, it was decided that Marsha should move to an independent living facility in Lincoln, NE.

Marsha was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs throughout her life, rejoicing in their World Series Championship in 2016. Before arthritis and eyesight made it too difficult, Marsha created thousands of intricate counted cross stitch sewing pieces. She also enjoyed word puzzles, reading, and playing computer games with internet friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son John and his wife Pam, and their children Alijah and Emily; her sister Raejean (Jerry) Furne, of Lawton, IA; sisters-in-law Jan Pacholke of Dubuque, IA and Hilda Pacholke of Hanford, CA along with nieces & nephews Kären (Mark) Wilson, Monica Pacholke, Jennifer (Andrew) Cobos, Aaron Pacholke, Angela (Josh) Garske, Amy (Benny) Segoviano, and Ray Pacholke; and many great-nieces and nephews.

Marsha was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold, and brothers David Pacholke and Richard Pacholke.

Memorial donations can be made in Marsha’s name to York “Adopt-A-Pet” (see ‘Charities” below). This wonderful non-profit organization helped find a home for Marsha’s beloved Pomeranians when she could no longer care for them herself. Donations can be made online through their web site or by mail to the address also listed below. If mailed, please include “ATTN: Kim Hart” in the address. Also, please indicate that the donation is being made in memory of Marsha Koughn.
