Garth Clark Hinrichs was born May 31, 1936, near Williamsburg, the son of Clark Carl and Beata (Voigtman) Hinrichs. He attended St. John Lutheran school, graduated from Deep River High School in 1954, and attended Iowa State University. He farmed, was a carpenter, worked at Amana Refrigeration, and Kinze Manufacturing until retiring in 2001.

On May 31, 1956, Garth was united in marriage to Judith Ann Downey at Sigourney United Methodist Church.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church were he served as an elder and trustee, he also was the St. John Cemetery sexton, a 4-H leader, a member of Deep River Saddle Club and Men's Club. Garth enjoyed traveling, camping, mushroom hunting, fishing, deer hunting and spending time with friends and family.

Garth passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Grinnell Health Care Center at the age of 81 years.

Garth is survived by his wife Judith of Victor; 4 children: Cathyrn Chevalier of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Christine (Ernest) Scheidemann of Naples, Florida; Brian (Lisa) Hinrichs of Guernsey and Bradley (Rita) Hinrichs of Victor, 11 grandchildren: Jerica Deitrick, Chad Hinrichs, Jessica, Hinrichs, Faith Hinrichs, Sarah (Garrett) Black, Cassie Behm, Sydney Behm, Grant (Baylea) Hinrichs, Garrett (Bri Gerard) Hinrichs, Silver (Dustin) Treece and Alyssa Scheidemann and 6 great grandchildren; two sisters: Lona Bell of Orlando, Florida and Patricia Morrow of Victor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three grandsons: Slater Hinrichs, Michael Scheidemann and Axsel Treece, two brothers-in-law: Al Bell and Larry Morrow.

Celebration Of Life Service will be 1:30 pm Sunday, November 26, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church near Victor. Burial in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Stuart Rethwisch will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. In lieu of flowers a general memorial fund has been established.
