Betty Jean Roth, age 90 of Harwick, Iowa, died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2020 at Brooklyn Community Estate. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn with Fr. Corey Close officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 P.M. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hartwick Fire Department or the Hartwick Store in Betty’s memory. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jean Bees was born November 22, 1929 in Hartwick, Iowa to Mildred (Ostrom) and Fred Bees of Hartwick, Iowa. She was raised in Hartwick and graduated from the Hartwick Public School with the Class of 1947.

On November 22, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Wallace Roth at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Brooklyn, Iowa. The couple were blessed with one daughter, Nancy, and two sons, Jim and Tim.

Betty lived most of her life on a farm north of Hartwick, where she raised her family and helped her husband, Wally, run the farm. In 1988, she and Wally moved to Hartwick.

Betty enjoyed gardening, cooking for her family, and spending her winters in Florida where she and Wally had many friends. She also enjoyed quilting and made a quilt for each of her grandchildren. She was a member of the Hartwick Fire Women’s organization for many years.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Dean) DeBrower of Victor, and sons James (Jeanne) Roth of Ames, and Timothy (Marilyn) Roth of Hartwick; nine grandchildren, Shallee (Howard) Williams, Shane (Libby) DeBrower, Shalen DeBrower, Claire (Ron) Fazio, David (Krista) Roth, Emily (Joe) Thor, Barb (Scott Beck) Roth, and Kenten (Brittany) Roth, and Faith Kaehler; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lou Bees of Enid, Oklahoma; sister-in-law Shirley Bloome of Hartwick; brother-in-law Cecil Roberts of Belle Plaine; and many nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and husband Wally in 2011.
