Betty R. Wyant, age 91 of Marengo, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Compass Memorial Hospital, Marengo. Funeral Service: 10:00 A.M. Monday, April 29, 2019, First Presbyterian Church, Marengo, with Rev. Diane Vorhies officiating. Burial will be in the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation: 3 – 6 P.M. Sunday, April 28, 2019, Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Memorials may be contributed in her memory to First Presbyterian Church, Marengo or the charity of donor’s choice.

She is survived by her children, Suzanne Rose (Dave) of Clinton, Sally Buscemi (Carl) of Houston, TX, William Wyant (Rona) of Marengo, and Sara Johnson (Al) of Camdenton, MO; 10 grandchildren, Kara Luett (Eric) of Long Grove, Kirstin Hagerty (Justin) of Cedar Rapids, Levi Wyant of Marengo, Bret Wyant (Jamie) of Omaha, NE, Cassie Bott (Zach) of Williamsburg, Robin Boyd and Travis Boyd, both of Houston, Jason Lutz and Jordan Lutz of St Charles, IL and Lance Rose of Eagle, CO; and 14 great-grandchildren;

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Nelson Dean Wyant in 2009, and a brother Robert A. Simmons.

Betty RaeJean Simmons was born July 28, 1927 in Marengo, Iowa, the daughter of Lloyd and Lola Bean Simmons. She attended the Marengo schools and graduated from Marengo High School in 1945. Betty and Nelson Dean Wyant were married March 12, 1947 at the First Presbyterian Chapel in Marengo. The couple farmed in Iowa County for many years. She was a loving wife, mother and homemaker, who enjoyed gardening, canning and cooking. She and Dean traveled extensively, seeing the United States, including Hawaii and Alaska. They traveled to Canada, South America, Mexico and England as well as the Scandinavian countries and Russia. Betty enjoyed 45 years wintering in Coronado, CA and visiting the family.

Betty was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She was a member of the Marengo American Legion Auxiliary, two of those years serving as president. She also was a member of the Iowa County Historical Society and Genealogy.
