Lois was born on October 12, 1929, in Ladora, the daughter of Joseph Newton and Blanch Wagner Robinson. She was the 4th of five girls in her family. She was raised on a small farmstead south of Ladora and was a 1946 graduate of Ladora High School.

On May 31, 1946, she was united in marriage with Edwin Dale York, at the Marengo Methodist Church, after Edwin returned home from serving for his country in WW II. The couple located on an acreage, west of Ladora, and started raising their family. A few years later, they relocated to Ladora and now had four boys.

Lois worked several jobs, including as secretary in the Ladora School system, the Marengo Care Facility, Amana Refrigeration, and as a private health care nurse for some local families.

Following her retirement, Spirit Lake was a place where she enjoyed camping and fishing, particularly in the early spring and late fall months to enjoy more privacy. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, and baking; she was known for her apple dumplings. She loved sweets and lots of chocolates!

Survivors include three sons, Lee (Julie) York of Cedar Rapids, Royce (Margaret) York of Montour, and Keith (Deb) York of Victor; a daughter-in-law, Betty York of Ladora; one sister, Donna Burrell of Amana; 11 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin in 2001; a son, Ross York; and three sisters, Muriel Hunzelman, Kathryn Bell, and Cleo Buswell.
