Donald R. Steckly, 70, died Sunday, August 25, 2019, at his home in rural Wellman.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, August 30, 2019, at 11:00 AM at Grace Community Church in North Liberty with Pastor Brooks Simpson officiating.

A private family burial will be held prior to the service at Memory Gardens in Iowa City.

Visitation will be held Thursday, August 29, 2019, from 4 – 8 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A general memorial fund has been established

Donald R. Steckly was born June 21, 1949, in Friend, NE, the son of Rollin and Thelma (Stutzman) Steckly. He graduated from IMS and served as a medic in the Army Reserves from 1968 – 1975. On June 29, 1968, he was united in marriage to Marcia Kesselring at the 1st Mennonite Church in Iowa City.

Don farmed in Iowa and Johnson Counties all of his life. He attended Grace Community Church and enjoyed farming, playing cards, fishing with his grandsons and attending his kids and grandkids’ various school activities.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Marcia of Wellman, three children: Mark (Cali) Steckly of Williamsburg, Michael (Mandy) Steckly of Wellman, Megan (Mikey) Mills of Parnell, six grandchildren: Zachary, Colton, Clayten, Cael, Graydon and Lincoln, twin sister Donna (Sam) Chupp of Arizona, brother Rodney (Angie) Steckly of Kalona, sisters-in-law: Pat Steckly of Arizona, Sarajane Kesselring of California, Brother-in-law Gordon (BJ) Kesselring of Oklahoma and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Don in death were his parents, his in-laws Carroll J. and Bea Kesselring, infant granddaughter Maelah Mills, two brothers: Terry and Larry Steckly, brothers-in-law Ron Kesselring and George Carter, sisters-in-law: Linda Dana and Linda Kesselring and a niece Stacy Steckly.
