Ronald Jones, 69, died Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at the Jones Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, March 25, at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Anamosa, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Pastor Melody Williams will officiate at the services.

Surviving is his wife, Rebecca; three children, Chad (Dani), Indianola, Brett (Stephanie), Ankeny, and Lisa (Rich) Osborne, Fargo, N.D.; two step-children, Christopher (Kelly Vernon) Kurth, Cedar Rapids and Kally (Anthony) Banks, Cedar Falls; 12 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, one step-great-grandson; and five siblings, Collen (Lyle) McGlynn, Darlene (Jose) Sanchez, Kay (Curtis) Anderson, Roger (Janel) and Gary (Diann).

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Brad.

Ronald Lee Jones was born on April 23, 1949, at Ames, Iowa. He was the son of Clarence and Katrina Allene Wilhour, Jones. Ron graduated from Ames High School in 1968. He started working as a security officer at Iowa State University. He later worked as a police officer in Jewel, where he became the chief. He moved to Anamosa in 1979, where he was an officer on the Anamosa Police Department and later was a deputy with the Jones County Sherriff's Department. He married Rebecca Sams, Kurth on June 25, 1983, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. He and Becky often worked security for the Two Star Detective Agency at Iowa Athletic Events. The couple moved to Victor, Iowa, in 1991 where Ron was the police chief. In 1996, they moved to North Liberty where he worked for an armored car service. He retired in 2000 with health issues following a stroke. The couple moved back to Anamosa in 2008.

His life away from law enforcement was his guitar. He was left handed and learned to play a standard guitar upside down and backwards. He wrote a number of songs, and played in the Iowa City Acoustic Society events and was a member of the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society.
