Oxford - Douglas Simon Schlabach, age 61 of Oxford, passed away after battling cancer at his home on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Per his wishes, there will be no services at this time. Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo is assisting with arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Marquita of Oxford; a daughter Dessirae Garcia Dolezal of Oxford; his mother, Joyce Schlabach of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, William R. Schlabach (Lisa) of Marengo; two sisters, Christine O'Maley of Colorado Springs, and Mary Lavonne Linnell of Kalona; along with several nieces and nephews that he adored.

He was preceded in death by his father Alvin Ray, and several aunts and uncles.

Douglas Simon Schlabach was born December 27, 1957 in Parnell, Iowa, the son of Alvin Ray Schlabach and Joyce D. Stutzman Schlabach. He graduated from Williamsburg High School with the Class of 1977, and went on to trade school in Arizona. Doug was a truck driver for J and J Cattle in Marengo and also did automotive welding. He and Marquita T. Garcia were married on July 12, 1997 at Kent Park, near Iowa City.

Douglas enjoyed working on his Jeeps and reading all he could on the car make. He also was a history buff, reading about and visiting many historical sites, especially Indian history. He liked to go fishing, collecting old cigarette lighters, and spending time with his buddies.
