Henry K. Solbrig, 89, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at the Hiawatha Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Dale Holloway of Living Hope Wesleyan Church will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Private burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Solbrig is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lillian; his stepchildren, Ellyne Novak (Ted) of Citrus Heights, CA, Jack Carlson (Carole) of Phoenix, AZ, Dr. James Carlson of Rocklin, CA, Ruth Carlson of Stone City, Iowa; nephews, Ozzie Hinrichs (Lois) of Amana, Vance Hinrichs (Debra) of Marengo, IA, and Rodney Hinrichs (Marsha) of Middle Amana, IA; a niece Gwen Hohle (Philip) of Austin, TX; and many step-grandchildren.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and a sister.
Henry was born August 12, 1922 in East Amana, Iowa, the son of Willy and Louise Solbrig. He graduated from Amana High School in 1940. Henry was a World War II veteran serving in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a member of the Civil Air Patrol and Civil Defense.
His interests included cars, the Iowa Hawkeyes and airplanes. At one time he piloted his own plane. He retired from Rockwell Collins after 36 years.
Memorial donations in Henry’s honor may be made to the Animal Welfare Foundation in Jones County, PO Box 573, Marion, IA 52302.
