Donald Arthur Torney of Williamsburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2019 at the age of 79.

Christian funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home. Burial will be at 3:30 pm in the Osage, Iowa Cemetery.

Memorial gifts will go to the Lutheran Interparish School and other organizations important to Don. Messages and tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com.

Donald Arthur Torney was born December 14, 1939 in Osage, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Christol (Mortensen) Torney. He graduated from Osage High School and then Iowa State University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering in 1964. Don was united in marriage to Barbara Marie Calhoon on January 5, 1963 in Ames. While attending college, Don worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission.

After graduation, he became the Assistant County Engineer in Floyd County for 13 years, then the County Engineer in Iowa County for 15 years. He later served as the County Engineer in Audubon and Cedar Counties.

He was a member of the Iowa and National County Engineers Associations, the Floyd, Iowa Lion's Club, the First Baptist Church in Charles City, Iowa, and then the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Williamsburg.

Don enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family, traveling to visit national parks and relatives, photography, genealogy, watching westerns, and being a helping hand at Highland Ridge.

He is survived by two daughters, Susan Torney of Houston, Texas and Linda (Jeff) Wille of Williamsburg; four grandchildren, Sarah, Nathan, Tyler and Kaitlin Wille; a sister, Gladys Johnson of Alcester, South Dakota and a brother, Arnold Torney of Deer Trail, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, sister Mabel Krahenbuhl, brother Earl Torney, and two siblings, Gene and Shirley, who died in childhood.
