Williamsburg–Mildred Elizabeth Bauer was born June 16, 1904 near Millersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Alva and Margaret Ann Sanger Pope. She graduated from Millersburg High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College. Mildred was united in marriage to Vernon Rudolph Bauer on March 4, 1926 in Millersburg. She taught school for a few years and was a homemaker. The couple lived and farmed in the Millersburg community. After Vernon’s death she moved to Williamsburg. Mildred was a former member of the Millersburg Methodist Church and an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg, she was also in the garden club, church groups and enjoyed playing bridge and traveling with friends and family Mildred broke her hip at the age of 94 years and moved into the Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Mildred died Sunday, March 13, 2005 at the Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids after complications of age, at the age of 100 years 8 months and 19 days. She is survived by four children: Joan (John) Bouslog of Marion, Janet (Charles) Lehr of Las Vegas, Nevada, William Bauer of Cedar Rapids and Philip Bauer of Decatur, Illinois; four grandchildren: James Bouslog, Sue Ann Dusil (fiance Bill Dawson), Jeff (Shawn) Bouslog and Scott (Angelia) Bouslog and six great grandchildren: Katie Bouslog, Stephan Bouslog, Nicholas Dusil, Allison Bouslog, Ryan Bouslog, and Brandt Bouslog. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, husband on October 18, 1984, an infant son Charles Kenneth Bauer, a brother: Murl Pope and six sisters: Grace Jones, Ada Lortz, Iva Campbell, Fern Montross, Vena Faas and Marjorie Pope. Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at the Uhlmann-Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Rev. James Stewart will officiate. Burial will be in the Millersburg Cemetery in Millersburg. Visitation will be from 9:00a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials are for the First Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg or the United Methodist Church in Millersburg may be sent to William Bauer at 1604 Matterhorn Dr. NE Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402.
