Graveside service with military honors for Bobby D. Miller, 81, rural Eddyville, will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 14, at Bluff Creek Cemetery, rural Eddyville. He died Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at his home.

Memorials may be left to the Hospice Serenity House, Oskaloosa.

The Eddyville Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to www.eddyvillechapel.com .

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, and from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel.

Bobby Dean Miller was born on March 29, 1936, in Des Moines. He was raised by his parents, Wilbur and Fern (Stahl) Miller. He attended school and at a young age went to work in a coal mine.

After a few years at the coal mine, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1954 to 1957. He served during the Korean Conflict and was trained as a welder. He continued his career in welding, working at Oskaloosa Engineering, and later working at John Deere as a welder before owning and operating Bob’s Welding in the late 1960s. His business remained open for 45-plus years.

On Jan. 28, 1966, he married Florence Alice Lowry Klaaren in Stronghurst, Ill. They shared over 41 years of marriage together and raised five children: Raygena, James, Steven, Ellen, and Larry. Florence passed away on Sept. 13, 2007.

Bob enjoyed gardening, helping neighbors and spending time on the river with family and friends. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be dearly missed.

Miller is survived by his children: Raygena (Michael “Chip”) Garringer, Williamsburg; James Klaaren, Cedar Rapids; Steven (Kathy) Klaaren, Ladora; Ellen (Morris) Wubbels, New Sharon, and Larry D. (Teresa) Miller, New Sharon; one brother, Jarmen Miller; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild and two dear friends, Bryce Veldhuizen and Jane Dykstra.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence; one sister, Joyce Sanders; one brother, Jim Miller; two brothers, in infancy and one sibling at birth.
