Williamsburg-Philip Morris Jones was born September 12, 1940 in Williamsburg, Iowa the son of Thomas and Mabel (Klever) Jones.
He graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1959. Philip served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1963-1965. He worked as a quality controller for Amana Refrigeration for 37 years retiring in 2003.
Philip was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797, where he was post commander for 10 years, Williamsburg Historical Society and past member of the Machinist Union #1526.
After retirement he enjoyed traveling, volunteering at the Williamsburg Historical Society, helping with community events and working with the local VFW. He was Grand Marshall for the Williamsburg 4th of July parade in 2016 and recently was the recipient of the 2018 Iowa County Commission of Veterans Affairs' Veteran of the Year.
Philip passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City at the age of 78 years.
He is survived by his cousins, Betty (James) Epley of Shellrock and John (Madiline) Sperry of Green Valley, Arizona and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg with military rites by the Iburg Poulson VFW Post #8797.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to7:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home. There will be a VFW Service at 7:00 pm.
