Nick Dolmage, 39, Victor, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017, after a courageous battle with interstitial lung disease for several years.

Private family services will be held.

Memorials may be mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347.

Condolences may be shared with his family online at www.smithfh.com .

Nick Dolmage was born Feb. 23, 1978, at the Grinnell Memorial Hospital. He was baptized, confirmed and a member of the Victor United Methodist New Covenant Parish. His faith was very important to him. Brooks often shared in his bedtime prayers.

He graduated from HLV Community School in 1997. One of his favorite summer memories was his 20 year class reunion with his high school friends.

He had a great love of fishing and boating. His summer goal was to catch a fish he deemed big enough to be on “John’s Big Ol’ Fish” on TV 9 News, which he did for the past eight years. He looked forward to our big camping trip each year at Rathbun with friends and neighbors where he rode his scooter from campsite to campsite visiting, helping keep track of the little ones, and playing Skipbo.

He was well-know for his love of country music, old TV shows, Dairy Barn Blizzards, shopping, and going out to eat, especially at Carnforth.

Nick was a people person. He was the first to offer to help. He loved family gatherings, holidays and getting together with friends. He loved visiting and the good food that went along with it. Spending time with Brad and Brooks was very important to him.

He loved to drive his mower, the boat, and his scooter but he especially loved to give his family and friends rides on the four-wheeler and in his Hawkeye golf cart.

Nick attended REA (Rural Employment Alternatives) in Conroy, a very caring place to hang out with friends, do fun activities, and be supported in daily living. He loved to help with their annual breakfast, attend the yearly banquet, and recently was proud to help put together their new cookbook that will be used as a fundraiser.

Nick loved to “dress for the occasion.” He was famous for wearing his suit to banquets, his Superman costume to Halloween parties, and his fish shirts for camping and fishing. He often chose to wear superhero shirts.

He was dearly loved, and will be greatly missed. He was our “Superman.”

Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Joy and Dean Dolmage, Victor; his brother and nephew, Brad and Brooks Dolmage, Victor, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
