Obituary for Wayne H. Schafbuch

Wayne Schafbuch, age 72 of Victor, passed away peacefully with his son at his side on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center after having been at home under the care of Grinnell Regional Hospice, his loving wife, and son.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor with Pastor Jim Davis, Victor United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Ohio Cemetery south of Ladora. A reception will follow at the Victor American Legion.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

Wayne Harlan Schafbuch was born on a farm south of Victor on March 18, 1946 to Harlan Jacob Schafbuch and Eileen Winifred (Goodman) Schafbuch. He was raised on the family farm and attended HLV High School in Victor with the class of 1964.

Wayne honorably served in the United State Marine Corp from 1965 until 1971. He was united in marriage to Teresa “Terrie” Keller on September 9, 1977 on his farm south of Victor. The couple was blessed with a son, Bret. They continued to farm all of their married lives. Wayne raised livestock and held a special passion for horses.

Wayne enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding horses, going to horse sales, watching Iowa Hawkeye football games and NASCAR races, and attending the Iowa State Fair. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Victor American Legion Post 54.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 41 years, Terrie Schafbuch of rural Victor; his son, Bret (Merete) Schafbuch of Billund, Denmark and their children, Otto and Albert; step-son, Eric (Klara) Johnson of Davenport, Florida and their children, Antonie, Taylor and Eric Carl; brother, Gary (Joan) Schafbuch of Victor, Iowa; sister-in-law, Elaine Schafbuch of Brooklyn, Iowa; along with several nephews and a niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Carroll Schafbuch; and great nephew, Austin Schafbuch.
