Leota B. Pickert Garwood, 83, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 26, 2018, at Colonial Manor in Amana. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Bill Randles. Burial: St. Michael Cemetery, Norway. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Leota is survived by her three children, Sheryl(Jeff) Doonan of Cedar Rapids, Lynn (Antoinette) Garwood of Des Moines and Mike (Stephanie) Garwood of Huntley, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Renee (Nick), Cody, Trina (Dan), Alexandria (Josh), Jack, Daniel and Alivia; nine greatgrandchildren; and sister, Letha (Glenn) Etscheidt of Blairstown.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merle, in 2016; infant daughter, Susan; two sisters, Mary Jones and Kathleen Shimek; and three brothers, Theodell, Arthur and David.

Leota Barbara was born on July 15, 1935, in Norway, the daughter of Arthur
and Ida Sevening Pickert. On April 23, 1956, she married Merle W. Garwood at St. Michael Catholic Church in Norway. Leota worked at Rockwell Collins as a secretary for many years.

Leota enjoyed golfing, walking, traveling and going for coffee. She was an Iowa Hawkeyes fan and a member of the Red Hat Society.

The family would like to thank all of the nurses, aides and staff at Colonial Manor in Amana for the loving care shown toward Leota and her family.

Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Leota's name.
