SERVICES FOR LOLA SIMMONS, 83, WERE FRIDAY

Funeral Services for Lola M. (Mrs. Lloyd) Simmons, 83, Marengo, were held at Hoover Valentine funeral home Marengo, at 10 a.m. Friday, July 8.

Mrs. Simmons died at Rose Haven nursing home Wednesday July 6, 1983, after residing there since October 1979. She had suffered a broken hip and that was followed by a light stroke in August 1979.

Officiating at the service was the Rev. Oluf Kongshaug, First Presbyterian Church. Organist Erma (Mrs. Milford) Langlas played "God Will Take Care of You" and accompanied Betty (Mrs. Oluf) Kongshaug as she sang "How Great Thou Art."

Pallbearers were grandsons Mark Grant, Austin, Texas; Bill Wyant, James, Bill and Robert Simmons Jr. and great-grandson Deron Simmons, all of Marengo. Honorary pallbearers were LeRoy Stevens, Earl Ealy and Leo Bell. Interment was in the Marengo cemetery.

Born Aug. 17, 1899 at Genoa Bluffs in Iowa county, she was the daughter of John and Harriet Fuller Bean. She attended school in the Ladora area and moved with her family to Des Moines and later returned to the Ladora area.

Her marriage to Lloyd R. Simmons took place Aug. 25, 1919, at Montezuma. They moved to their present home following their marriage. She particularly enjoyed gardening, sewing and traveling.

Mrs. Simmons was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, which attended the funeral service as a group. She was also a member of First Presbyterian church.

Survivors in addition to her husband are one son, Robert A. Simmons, Marengo; two daughters, Betty (Mrs. Dean) Wyant, Marengo, and Phyllis (Mrs. Marian) Grant, Williamsburg; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Ronald Simmons.
