Joe D. McCartney
March 2, 1949 – November 8, 2017

Joe D. McCartney, 68, passed away in his home surrounded by family and friends on
November 8, 2017, in Stephenville.

Memorial services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, November 18th at First Baptist Church in Stephenville with Tammy Rokus, Dick Carroll, and Ken May officiating. Visitation to follow immediately after service.

Joe was born on March 2, 1949 in Washington, Iowa to the late David Barr and Adelaide Ann Kadlec McCartney. He married Cherrie Lynn Gilbert, the love of his life, on January 20, 2004 in Flowery Branch, Georgia. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stephenville and had lived in Stephenville for the past 8 years, moving here from Flowery Branch, Georgia. Joe retired after 25 years with Cargill Corporation and 7 years with UPS. After retirement, Joe enjoyed spending time in his dream cabin with a tv remote in his hand. He loved entertaining visitors. He had the gift of making friends easily because of his ability to be a good listener and his sense of humor. New acquaintances became fast friends. Throughout his life he showed his love of Jesus Christ by the example he lived and the words he spoke.

Survivors include his wife, Cherrie; step-daughters, Gwen and husband Jared Hooste of Fort Worth, and Vanessa and husband Jerry McDaniel of Winder, Georgia; grandchildren, Alyssa, Logan, Savannah, Cameron, Adam, and Hadley; mother, Doris McCartney of Iowa; sister, Elaine Clarke of Iowa; brother, Eric Larson; father-in-law, Delmer Gilbert of Stephenville; brother-in-law, Randy Gilbert of Stephenville; and nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, John McCartney, his mother-in-law, Blanche Gilbert, and his brother-in-law, Dennis Clarke.

We are eternally grateful for Alpha Omega Hospice for their love, care, and support.

Joe will be forever remembered by his family and dear friends.
