M. Mahannah Dies Of Heart Attack
Mildred F. Mahannah, 72, died of a heart attack Sunday, Nov. 11, 1979 at Iowa Methodist Medical center, Des Moines. A native of North English, Mildred had resided at 3333 Grand avenue, Des Moines for many years.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the First Christian church, Des Moines, with the Rev. James Ryan, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was made in the North English cemetery, at 2 p.m.
Miss Mahannah was born Oct. 5,1907, at North English, a daughter of George and Pauline Rogner Mahannah. Her father operated a harness shop, and later a restaurant here for many years.
She attended North English schools and graduated from North English high school in 1924.
She attended Iowa State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, earning a primary education diploma. She started her teaching career in North English, teaching second grade. She later taught in Conrad and Stuart, before moving to Des Moines in1939.
Miss Mahannah was employed by Meredith Corporation as a comptroller for many years, retiring just a few years ago. She was an active member of the First Christian church and was a past president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship.
Survivors include a sister, Lorna Vermazen, Fayette; eight nieces and nephews, other relatives and a large circle of friends, including many former students.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Melvin and Paul Mahannah, and by her step-mother, Hilda Mahannah.
