Funeral service for Gary L. Miller, 67, West Amana, was held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 21, at Middle Amana Church, Middle Amana. He died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Compass Memorial Hospital, Marengo.

Elder Kristie Yoder will officiate at the service.

Burial will be in the West Amana Cemetery, with a Masonic Service.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Amana Church Society.

Gary Miller was born March 8, 1950, in Cedar Rapids, the son of George and Ethel Oehler Miller. He graduated from the Amana Schools in 1969 and received his bachelor of arts degree in education from William Penn University in 1973. He taught sixth grade at Lorenz, and later worked at the Ronneburg Restaurant, Amana, for 15 years as a cook. He also worked at Rockwell Collins in the shipping department, retiring in June 2012.

He enjoyed tinkering around in his machine shop, doing genealogy of his family history, reading, attending the Iowa State Fair and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the Amana Church, Hope Masonic Lodge #175 of Belle Plaine and was also involved with the El Kahir Foot Patrol.

Miller is survived by his wife, Ellen; his mother, Ethel Miller, Marengo; a brother-in-law, Dale (Mary Kay) Peck, Galena, Ill.; a sister-in-law, the Rev. Anna Peck, Cedar Rapids; an uncle, Harvey Oehler, Amana; and an aunt, Elsie Oehler, Jacksonville, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his father, George; three aunts, Karen and Helen Louise Oehler, Emilie Graesser, Marylin Sinnard and Lucille Harbor, and five uncles, Orville and William Oehler, Richard Graesser, Gene Sinnard and Leo Harbor.
