North English Business Woman Died Saturday
North English—Hilda H. Mahannah, former well known business women here, died early Saturday morning at Des Moines.
Born in Sweden the daughter of Lars and Elna Hendrikson, she came to the United States with her parents, when she was four years old.
On Sept 5, 1927 she was married to George L. Mahannah in the Little Brown church at Nashua. For many years the Mahannahs ran a café here and after the death of her husband in 1934, Mrs. Mahannah continued operation of the café.
In later years she bought and ran a hotel which she sold eight years age. For the last three years she made her home in Des Moines so she could be near her step-daughter, Mildred Mahannah , in Des Moines.
Mrs. Mahannah was a member of the North English Rebekah lodge and Christian church.
Survivors, in addition to Mildred, include a step-daughter, Lorna Vermazen of Fayette; two step-sons, Paul of Keokuk, and Melvin of Berea, O.; two sisters, Alice Hjerleid of Winona, Minn., and Mrs. Joseph McCarthey of Eyota, Minn.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hilda H. Mahannah were Sunday, May 15, 1960 at the Powell
.. Funeral home.
Officiating clergyman was Rev. Lynn Rumer. The organist was Mrs. Merle Smith.
Casket bearers were Charles Pine, Donald Swink, Donald Coffman, Floyd Brown, Lowell Churchill and Barney Thomas. Interment was in North English cemetery
