Vern Hugh Glotfelty, 83, of Brooklyn and formerly of Victor, peacefully stepped into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Brooklyn Community Estate.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 7, 2017, at the New Covenant-United Methodist Church in Victor with Pastor Danny Davis, Lead Pastor of the Legacy Wesleyan Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, officiating. Organist will be Marilyn Kriegel. Casket Bearers will be Damon Daniels, Danny Davis, Dan Dreyer, Nathan Glotfelty, Tim Glotfelty and Dennis Hull. Honorary Bearers will be Matthew Hull, Jason Glotfelty, Joshua Glotfelty, Christopher Hull, William Glotfelty, Nick Glotfelty, Tylar Glotfelty, Jacob Dreyer, Jared Dreyer, Josh Piquard and Marc Kelly. Interment will be at the Brethren Cemetery near Libertyville, Iowa.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor beginning 12 noon on Friday, October 6, 2017, and the family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday. A masonic service will be held 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.

Should friends desire, memorials in Vern's name may be directed to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or to the Victor United Methodist Women and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347.

Vern was born on April 15, 1934, near Libertyville, Iowa to Vernon and Esther Workman Glotfelty. Vern grew up on the family farm and later graduated with the Class of 1952 from Fairfield High School.

On April 3, 1954, he was united in marriage to Joanne Carol Webb of Batavia, Iowa and they raised eight children. The couple lived in rural Fairfield before moving to Marengo in 1959. In 1967, the family moved to rural Victor and later into the community of Victor. He was employed at Amana Refrigeration for 37 years and retired in 1996.

Vern was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, son, uncle, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed by all. He shared a loved of traveling with his wife Joanne. He also enjoyed listening to country music, watching sports, attending family music and sporting events, the Old Threshers Reunion and the Iowa State Fair. He enjoyed visiting with people…….never meeting a stranger. Vern was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge, the Victor United Methodist Church and served his country in the Iowa National Guard for many years. Most of all, he was proud of his family and loved spending time with them.

Survivors include his children, Deb (Danny) Davis of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Tammy (Dennis) Hull of Cedar Rapids, Tim (Janet) Glotfelty of Victor, Nathan (Marla) Glotfelty of Kellogg, Chris (Damon) Daniels of Huntsville, Alabama and Jill (Dan) Dreyer of Muscatine; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lavina Glotfelty of Davenport, Betty(Harry) Durflinger of Greentop, Missouri, Patti (Bob) Whitham of Madrid and Nancy Webb of Ottumwa; brother-in-law, James Webb of Andover, Minnesota; several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents; his loving wife of 55 years, Joanne; two sons, Mark and Michael Glotfelty; two brothers, Vernon Harold and Clarence Glotfelty; and two sisters, Carolyn Glotfelty and Mary Nelson.

Vern's family would like to thank the staff of Brooklyn Community Estate for their loving care.
