Celebration of life service for Charles “Les” Hooper, 80, Williamsburg, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg. He died Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City.

Memorials may be made for the St. Paul United Methodist Church Youth Program.

Charles “Les” Hooper was born April 26, 1937 in Marion County, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Helen (Metcalf) Hooper. He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1957 and the Iowa State Patrol Academy in 1966.

He married Nancy Sue Bunce on June 27, 1958, at the Christian Church, Carlisle. They lived in Carlisle after their marriage and moved to Williamsburg in 1966, when he was assigned by the Patrol. He served in the Army National Guard from 1955 to 1963 with the rank of Sgt E5 USAR. He worked for the city of Carlisle Police Department for a couple of years before becoming an Iowa State Trooper for 23 years, retiring as a Senior Trooper. He also worked for the U.S. Marshal as a District Supervisor of Northern Iowa Court Security for the Federal Court system. He later worked for the Iowa County Transportation Services for three years. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church, Williamsburg.

Hooper is survived by his wife, Nancy, and a son, Scott (Hannah) Hooper, all Williamsburg; a daughter, Julie (Greg) Menary, Carlisle; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hooper, North English; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Tom) Hartshorn, Nickolas (Megan) Menary, Zachery Hooper, Gabrielle Hooper and Ashley Hooper; a great-granddaughter, Hayley Hartshorn, and a brother, Dick Hooper, California.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Jeffery Hooper, and a sister, Norma Pegram.
